On June 29th, 2026, the Club of Rome, Austrian Chapter, organised a highly interesting event on the topic of peace at ÖNB.
Key messages form the global speakers: Carlos Álvarez Pereira, Secretary General of the Club of Rome, presented the strategic action plan for Global Equity for a Peaceful and Healthy Planet 2025 – 2028. The focus is on two phases as shown in the graph.
The question he was asking is key; „what kind of futures are we giving birth to?“ The Club of Rome has presented already a number of publications with regards to this question, starring with „The Limits to Growth“ (already in 10972!), „No Limits to Learning“ (1979), followed by „Earth4All“ (2022, see also our reading recommendations) and „No Limits to Hope“ (2026). Rounding up, he mentioned the report „Planetary Peace for Human Security“ published in 2025, which we had also presented as reading recommendation earlier this year!
Paul Shrivastava, Co-President of the Club of Rome, offered insights into the Planetary Peace Initiative: We need a new conception of peace: „from Peace to Planetary Peace“. After five decades of eco-system degradation, it is time for uniting in peace. „We need to learn to become future-fit humans“ was his call for action. As the SDGs are coming to an end, we also need to develop key elements for sustainability beyond 2030.
Gertrude Suschko, who moderated the event, closed it with a citation from the last study: „Planetary peace goes beyond the absence of war, it means creating conditions for people and planet to flourish through just economies, inclusive governance and a renewed relationship with the Earth.“
We at CSR Dialogforum are more than happy to contribute to the birth of this kind of future!
